Easter Lamb

Some of you gobble up chocolate bunnies for Easter. I know you do!  Usually for Thanksgiving we have turkey and for Easter – a crown roast of lamb, (if you’re not vegan of course)! How in the world did this choice of food get chosen for the Easter Holidays and Passover season?

I love this picture. A perfect little lamb is a fitting symbol for the rebirth of spring. When a lamb is born, it is such a symbol of innocence and purity. And so it must have seemed to the prophet, John the Baptist when he first saw the stranger named Jesus Christ approaching him to be baptized in the Jordan River. “Look, the Lamb of God” (John 1:35), he exclaimed.

Once upon a time (LOL) there was a boy who wasn’t right in the head, and had convulsions, grinding his teeth and foaming at the mouth. From childhood, he kept falling into campfires and deep water trying to kill himself. His father thought he was possessed by an evil spirit and sought out a well-known healer.

"... if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”

‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:22-24 NIV Bible

This powerful healer talked directly to the spirit and commanded it to leave the boy. It did with a violent shriek, and then he was healed.

The father could only believe it was possible for his son to be healed when he connected to God’s power by asking Jesus for help.

That’s the formula! That’s how we overcome our own limited thinking. We connect to an all-powerful God who can then do the impossible!

From my heart to yours!

Some of us believe in Something Greater than Ourselves but we don’t go to church. We don’t like religion or the hypocrisy we see in it. But then how can we pray to get linked up with the greatest power in the universe?

Jesus Christ taught us how to pray. (Christ was not his last name! The word Christ means the one supernaturally, and powerfully anointed). Early Christians called it the Lord’s Prayer and in most Bible versions, it sounds pretty religious.

So here’s my 21st Century translation of it. You can compare it side by side to the original. I often pray this way. Perhaps this would suit you too!

The Earthling’s Prayer
Translated by JaneCatherineRozek
The Lord’s Prayer (King James Version)
Oh, Great Creator from out in space, you alone have sacred authority. Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
May your government be established on our planet as it is in the galaxies.  Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Fill our day with physical and spiritual nourishment.  Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive our faults in the same way we forgive those who offend us.  Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Direct us into a higher conscience and protect us from immorality. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For this is your realm, your unrivaled power and supernatural splendor, forever. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever.
I align myself to these words. So be it.Amen.

I treasure the time I spend with those in my close bubble.

But I mask up and keep my distance from other friends because how could I live with myself if I unknowingly infected someone with Covid? I do it because I respect the rights of others as much as my own.

Two of my friends have passed away this year. If you have also lost someone close to you, I’m giving you a virtual hug because my heart feels what you feel. And maybe you’re like me, full of regrets of what I should have done for them, and with them. (You fill in the blanks)

I should have –

I could have –

I wouldn’t have – if I had known there was so little time before they had had to go. So now, my New Year’s resolution is simple:

I want to love, deeply. To share the simple pleasures in life with those I care about.

To stop channel surfing, to downscale the social clutter, to grow in spiritual maturity, and to simplify, simplify, until friendships are the structure that holds my life together. With political chaos and Covid in our world, nothing is for sure. What is left is our relationship with God and each other. That is what’s important. That’s what life is all about.

May your New Year be blessed with a depth of love you’ve never yet encountered.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV

ForeWord Reviews said:  “Identifying faith as a force for shifting manifest reality, Jane Catherine Rozek untethers Bible verses from their historic, traditional moorings. This mash-up of Bible + sci-fi + metaphysics has introduced new lines of thought for meditation and consideration.”
– Kirkus Reviews said:  “A passionate rereading of Christianity and the nature of personal faith…Familiar concepts, sure, but Rozek’s unconventional perspective makes them seem invigoratingly new. A well-written and welcoming take on the traditional tenets of Western religion.”

A full moon waited for me in the early morning sky. I know this because I put on my swimsuit, poured a cup of coffee, and went out into the cold winter to sit in the hot tub at 6:00AM! That moonlight was so strong…

This Covid 19 time makes me so stressed out. Along with the presidential elections in the States, the violence in the streets, and conspiracy theories popping up like mushrooms in the fall, stress is messing with my mind. I bet I’m not the only one too.

I’ve felt this way before, but then I had logical reasons for it in times of crisis. Now it’s the indecision, the crazy versions of the truth on the news and those stupid scary dystopian movies!

Yes, I wear a mask and keep my social distance to protect myself and others from that invisible invasive enemy. I try to be positive. But I have a favourite passage that I read to help me stay grounded. Maybe it will help you too. Because there is a higher power we can connect to for supernatural protection and peace of mind.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God in whom I trust.”
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the hunter
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
    and under His wings you shall find protection;
His faithfulness shall be your shield and wall.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
    nor of the arrow that flies by day;
nor of the pestilence that pursues in darkness,
nor of the destruction that strikes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side
and ten thousand at your right hand,
but it shall not come near you... Psalm 91 MEV Bible

So when it feels like I’m swimming on a dark stormy lake, I envision God’s arms sheltering me and I snuggle in close. That’s where I feel most protected. He’s always there waiting to comfort me!

I’m sending virtual hugs to all of you! Stay safe. You are loved.

The “Christian vote” is a hot topic for those deciding who to vote for in the upcoming elections. That confuses me because we have such a simple answer to guide us! Our God belongs to no political party and God doesn’t play around in politics. So if you think of yourself as a Democrat, a Republican, or a Canadian Conservative, or a Liberal; remember as Christians we don’t follow a party line. We follow God!

God gave us standards to live by and by using those very standards we each can determine the best candidate to vote for. Which one shows the Fruits of the Spirit? Who lives by those standards? Christians ought not to be swayed by either the right or left media slants, which are most likely paid for by huge corporate interests. WE ARE ABOVE ALL THAT!

It’s harvest time in our farmlands right now. Remember the Fruits of the Spirit in the Bible, the very book we value so highly?

But the Spirit produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control...
Galatians 5:19-26 NCV Bible

These godly traits are what we look for in the candidates we want to elect. I love the plain and clear analogy in these common-sense verses!

“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.

People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers.
A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Luke 6:43-45 NIV Bible

Are there those among you who are truly wise and understanding? Then they should show it by living right and doing good things with a gentleness that comes from wisdom.
But if you are selfish and have bitter jealousy in your hearts, do not brag. Your bragging is a lie that hides the truth.

That kind of “wisdom” does not come from God but from the world. It is not spiritual; it is from the devil. Where jealousy and selfishness are, there will be confusion and every kind of evil.

But the wisdom that comes from God is first of all pure, then peaceful, gentle, and easy to please. This wisdom is always ready to help those who are troubled and to do good for others. It is always fair and honest.
James 3:13-18 NCV Bible

So there you go. The solution is to vote for the candidate that has the most history of honesty, his integrity! “By their fruit, you shall know them,” NOT by what the say in front of a camera. But the one who is most full of wisdom and love toward others – proven by the fruit he’s produced in the past!

Virtual hugs to all of you! I pray you’ll get registered and get out to vote. Remember God’s standards and take measures to stay healthy.
