Faith, Survival, and Hidden Gold in the Canadian Wilderness
Spirit Quest Series, Book 4

“They came to the wilderness to live off the land, but the mountain above them held their true destiny.”
A hundred miles off the grid in the vast wild backcountry of British Columbia, Kate and Dave’s survival depends on courage, ingenuity, and sheer determination. They live in poverty and raise their children in a two-room log cabin that stands alone in a vast landscape of forests, creeks, and untamed mountains.
Their Highland cows graze on the alpine meadows where moose, wolves, and grizzlies roam the land. Food has to be hunted, grown, and preserved by hand. Gas lamps are lit in the evenings and water comes from the creek with a pail. Kate must pit her wits against the hardships, and her faith is tested with every challange.
When timber and mining interests open the area, Dave and his son David ride their horses up to the top of Mount Davidson to stake a hard rock gold claim. For years, the claim brings no reward—only paperwork and persistent prospecting. Can Kate hold on to a promise she made to her husband?
Dave always said they were ‘rich with potential.’ Decades later, his words are fulfilled in a way Kate could never have imagined!
PRAISE FOR MOUNTAIN DESTINY:
From Kirkus Reviews
The writing is strong, and Kate is a compelling character... Over the coming years, she learns how to ‘kill her own snakes’ and becomes the warrior her family needs, embracing her destiny.
From the Prairies Book Review
A raw, gripping story of grit, faith, and hard-won destiny. A sincere and deeply immersive tale of life in the wild, it captures the grit of survival and the slow, uncertain journey toward personal and spiritual change. A deeply affecting gut punch of a story.
From an Early Beta-reader
"This book serves up existential thought with a side of dirt under the fingernails!"
From Jennifer Senick, Reedsy Discovery
Anyone looking to read memoirs, historical fiction, stories of self-reliance, or inspirational tales rooted in real experiences will want to pick this one up.
5/5 stars, Jamie Michele/Readers’ Favorite
Rozek does an excellent job of balancing hardship against moments that are truly heartening. The juxtaposition of the harshness and instinct of nature is absolutely gorgeous. With spectacular landscapes and a brilliant legal fight Kate must endure for mineral rights, this is a sharply written, ambitious, and perfectly paced novel. Very highly recommended.
