You may believe in highly evolved extraterrestrial life in far off galaxies, but did you ever expect the Pope to believe it?  Well, he obviously does! Recently on October 27, 2014, Pope Francis I, refers to “beings of the universe” who have evolved in ways that are consistent with the plans of “God the creator”.

Pope Francis I addresses the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. He endorses a scientific view of a God who works mysteriously behind the scenes in the evolution of life on Earth and in the universe. God is not a magician, he says.

"He created beings and allowed them to develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one, so that they were able to develop and to arrive and their fullness of being. He gave autonomy to the beings of the universe at the same time at which he assured them of his continuous presence, giving being to every reality. And so creation continued for centuries and centuries, millennia and millennia, until it became which we know today, precisely because God is not a demiurge or a magician, but the creator who gives being to all things."

Well, this is certainly a new path down the rabbit hole.

What is all this leading up to? Actually the Vatican has had scientific interest in possible extraterrestrial life for a number of years. It was in May 2008 when Fr Gabriel Funes, the head of the Vatican Observatory, made a startling statement about how alien beings are probably more ethically evolved than humans. We may someday be welcoming them as brothers, says Fr Funes.

"Just as there is a multiplicity of creatures on earth, there can be other beings, even intelligent, created by God. This is not in contrast with our faith because we can't put limits on God's creative freedom… "Why can't we speak of a 'brother extraterrestrial'? It would still be part of creation…"

It’s not just the Vatican who may be preparing us for the reality of extraterrestrial intelligent beings. Almost two years ago world leaders met to make contingency plans for five X factors of global catastrophes. One of these was the discovery of the existence of extraterrestrial beings. That discovery would certainly be one of the biggest news stories of the year!

But hey, if you call yourself a Christian don’t you automatically already believe in off-planet (extraterrestrial) super-beings like God himself, hovering angels, invisible demons, and supernatural elders around God’s throne in the heavens (outerspace)?

No big deal then… we should be ready!
