HOW DO YOU PRAY IF YOU’RE SPIRITUAL BUT NOT RELIGIOUS?

Some of us believe in Something Greater than Ourselves but we don’t go to church. We don’t like religion or the hypocrisy we see in it. But then how can we pray to get linked up with the greatest power in the universe?

Jesus Christ taught us how to pray. (Christ was not his last name! The word Christ means the one supernaturally, and powerfully anointed). Early Christians called it the Lord’s Prayer and in most Bible versions, it sounds pretty religious.

So here’s my 21st Century translation of it. You can compare it side by side to the original. I often pray this way. Perhaps this would suit you too!

The Earthling’s Prayer
Translated by JaneCatherineRozek
The Lord’s Prayer (King James Version)
Oh, Great Creator from out in space, you alone have sacred authority. Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
May your government be established on our planet as it is in the galaxies.  Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Fill our day with physical and spiritual nourishment.  Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive our faults in the same way we forgive those who offend us.  Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Direct us into a higher conscience and protect us from immorality. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For this is your realm, your unrivaled power and supernatural splendor, forever. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever.
I align myself to these words. So be it.Amen.

  1. I love the way this can update our understanding of the connection we can have to Spirit, while not dishonoring the original idea of God or the Lords Prayer. I beleive that God is actually many things by many names. And he does not need us to “pray” certain words anyway. Honestly, i would think it might get a little boring to him if those were the only words he ever heard the world pray. 🙂 Lol. Rather the Great Spirit of the Universe longs to feel the emotions of our hearts if we are willing to share them. And that means it is very important to find a personal way to relate to the Source of Love and Life, no matter how we identify this power. Really, i think that Source just wants a relationship with us… in any way possible… however it feels most personal to us. Perhaps this prayer helps.

  2. WOW!!! I absolutely love this!
Your super cool layman’s …errrr laywoman’s modern day version makes me feel like God is really right here in front of me. Like I’m having a wee chat with my very own personal God. I can dig that any day & everyday. It’s such a great and meaningful way to feel so close to Him.
    So be it.
