EASTER-THE RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST

 

Easter makes us ask questions! Jesus Christ rose and went back to heaven, but when will he return? Will the world be destroyed? Will only Christians be saved? One of my blog fans wrote to me asking these very things. And they seem hard questions to answer, but not if we check back to the original source. Jesus already answered them!

Dear reader, I am humbled by your request that I respond to your end-time concerns. Jesus’ disciples sat with him on the Mount of Olives and asked him the same things!

“Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Matthew 24:3

So here, in his own words, is how Jesus Christ answers your questions and those of his disciples:

“When will Jesus Christ return to Earth?”

…No one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father…For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be.... Matthew 24:36-39

“What are the signs of Jesus coming back?”

Jesus listed many signs: famines, earthquakes, persecution, false prophets, and the gospel of the kingdom preached to the whole world. We might say all of these things have already happened, but we’re still disturbed by Jesus’ next words. Is this political? I wonder what they mean. Don’t you?

So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’...flee to the mountains.... Matthew 24:6-16

“How will Jesus come back to earth?”

Jesus explains that when he returns, it will seem “as lightning that comes from the east (and) is visible even in the west….”

Immediately after the distress of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken…And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. Matthew 24-29-30

When Christ returns to our planet, a huge cataclysmic event will occur around the world. For stars to fall or shift in the sky, Earth must be jolted by a strong astronomical force.

But wait a minute. Why will all the “peoples of the earth” mourn when they see Christ coming down from the sky? What will that look like to people who’ve never heard about Christ’s second coming? Wouldn’t it seem like our world is being taken over by a celestial force from outer space?

And in a sense, that is what will be happening. God is from the heavens, right?

Jesus Christ’s return will end the world’s governments and replace them with a higher moral form of government—the kingdom of God!

That is what a kingdom is; a form of government for the inhabitants living under it. Do you pray The Lord’s Prayer? Then you already pray for that very thing!

"Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” John 6:10

But I want to reassure you. God will not come to destroy our world. Corrupt governments and corporate greed are already threatening and destroying the existence of life on our planet. Polluted air and oceans, the annihilation of civilization, even the threat of nuclear war, yet Jesus came once to save us. He is returning again to save our human race, to save our world from ourselves.

“How can you prepare for his coming?”

We can develop the fruits of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galations 5:22-23

“Will only believers be saved? And how can you tell if someone is a believer?”

Jesus says, “By their fruits, you shall know them.”

…anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6

So even in the unprecedented times of our new 21st Century, Jesus speaks out and warns us to:

Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:34-36
