As the US celebrates Martin Luther King Day, I can’t help thinking of the words he once said 50 years ago.
I remember Martin Luther King Jr. dared to speak out against the US policy on Vietnam!
He claimed his own government created the Vietnam conflict itself and that the US was:
“But why did he say this?” I had to ask myself.
Years later, I realize it is only to fuel the great military-industrial complex so that the billions of dollars of war machinery can be sold. Because of course, in capitalism a market is required for your products to sell.
In other words, there has to be a war going on someplace in the world, for the US economy to profit from. PEACE is not profitable in the eyes of Big Business.
So I have profound respect for Martin Luther King Jr. though he wasn’t perfect. Today he would say to all of us, the same thing he said back then:
And so I’m sending this out today for the political situation in the US. Because a CLEAR CONSCIENCE is a godly characteristic we should all develop. And we should do it quickly.
