The mechanics of using power from God was beyond me too. “Yeah, OK, he died for me. He’s supposed to save me but what is he saving me from? Maybe he lives in me, whatever that means, but how does that change anything?”
When we translate a keyword from “Christianese” into plain old English it clarifies things. Christians talk a lot about Jesus Christ, but you have to realize that the word Christ is NOT his last name.
According to any bible concordance and dictionary, Christ means the anointed or the anointing of something. The word, anoint means to daub on a powerful substance, like when we break a bottle of champagne over the bow of a ship to christen its maiden voyage.
Jesus is called The Christ because he was anointed with power from a celestial realm. His friends saw that there was something different about him. He had such strange power, so much that they called him the Son of God!
So, when you start to read the timeless verses in the New Testament, try substituting the word Christ with these words: the one anointed with celestial power, or power from on high. It’s pretty awesome reading then!
AND IF CHRIST IS IN YOU then a metaphysical cosmic anointing of power is in you. Whew!
